Not to dump on the classics but this was really kind of perverted. They congratulated a man for upsetting a woman so much she wanted to kill herself, meanwhile two old grannies try to pimp out their underage granddaughter with said man who is likely twice her age! Okay, it isn't nearly that perverted, but it still is kind of odd and if not that, dull.
Nothing really happens and it takes forever for anything to happen. Best picture winner? I don't know, I haven't even heard of anything else from that year, but if this is any indication, they were pretty lame! The acting was subpar (thus no nominations) except the old guy who won an hounorary one.
On a high note, the musical aspect of the film was quite modern: the songs were not big and spectaqular with dancing and over the top corn and ended up being more conversational that sing-songy. So it was belivable in that fact.
But otherwise... dull and strange. And it won best editing why? In one scene the skyline on the beach is blue and the pier above has a sunset! WTF?!
