Review of Gigi (1958) by Danielle A — 14 Apr 2010
A very lighthearted musical take on the lifestyle of high society Parisians, with great production values, enduring performances by the leads(especially that of Louis Jordan), and unforgettable, smile-inspiring songs.
Though it's a grand musical for all ages, this colorful film also tackles the womanizing ways of Parisian elites in the heydays of the city of love, and how this all changes when unexpected, unanticipated love enters the scene.
I'm not fond of musicals, but "Gigi" contains splendid songs, notably the "I remember it well" number by Maurice Chevalier. "Gigi", in some ways like "Amelie", shows Paris in a very colorful landscape, where problems rarely comes, and sometimes when it did arrive, it's accompanied with a dance and song, and usually with a happy conclusion.
"Thank Heavens!".
