Review of Gigi (1958) by Brian S — 02 Jan 2012
Not the most inspiring of film musicals, but it's entertaining enough. Leslie Caron is a truly charming leading lady. Maurice Chevalier is also a joy, both to hear sing and to bring life to the mischievous womanizer Honore.
the acting was great, the sets and costumes were vibrant and colorful, and the Lerner & Loewe music is instantly classic. my one major complaint is the love story....Gigi and Gaston get along swimmingly as friends, and it's very endearing.
the moment romance is brought it, it becomes superficial and false, and despite the possible intentions of the ending, it remains that way. overall, the movie's fun and fluffy, but it doesn't tell the best story.
