Review of Gigi (1958) by Logan M — 03 Mar 2018
Despite the backlash in recent years to the storyline, a near-perfect MGM musical directed by Vincente Minnelli; lovely to look at and a delight to listen to, with many charming moments: Maurice Chevalier, exhibiting his inimitable French style, introduces "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and "I'm Glad I'm Not Young Anymore," as well as his memorable duet with Hermione Gingold to "I Remember It Well;" Leslie Caron's bittersweet lament to her pet cat, "Say a Prayer for Me Tonight," and, of course, the Oscar-winning "Gigi," talk-sung by Louis Jourdan.
The film also won eight other Oscars, including Best Picture.
