Review of Gigi (1958) by Lord N — 25 Apr 2010
Gigi was nominated for 9 academy awards and I believe ( I could be wrong) it won all of them....that to me is very very wrong. as a film in of itself, not trying to be something it's not, it is average.
However as Gigi attempts to be this wonderful amazing colorful (although it is that) film that is worthy of the Oscars that it received. it was not even remotely that. it was a very colorful film that had some decent moments and one or two half decent songs.
it was entertaining at some points (hence the 60%). however the rest of the film was absolutely horrible. this film won 9 Oscars, it was nominated for no acting awards. There is a reason for this. the reason is that the acting absolutely sucked.
they did nothing that deserves any special recognition or really any recognition at all for that matter. the opening of the film ruins the rest of it with a song called Thank Heaven for Little Girls. does that disturb anyone else? it was a sub par film that tries to be something it wasn't and inexplicably won 9 Oscars for it.
Final Verdict: this film was horrible. it was a huge Best Picture winner mistake. Replacement Winner: The Defiant Ones.
