Review of Gifted (2017) by Chynna Raye P — 12 Apr 2017
Adorable. It was simply that.
The way buried the heartbreaking reality that brought the niece and uncle together was perfect for how they wanted to slowly reveal the real story between mother and son. The pace of the film matched Chris Evans' characters mindset and when his emotions got intense so did the film, but it remained calm for the most part which reflected how he chose to raise his niece.
There were some semi-beautiful scenes, but also a few nauseating moments of camera shaking. Just for the sunset scene alone, I applaud the people behind the camera.
That beautiful little girl has so much talent in her. The smart little girl character was matched with her smart acting that attaches you to her and breaks your heart when you have to leave her. The romance, on the other hand, was not as believable. Their chemistry felt more like a best friend duo more than a love story interest. I am aware this is weird for me to say given that those actors were/are a real life couple.
Probably the most hilarious part of this film was the costumer designers use of slightly over sized shirts to keep from Chris Evans' Captain America muscles from showing.
