Review of Gifted (2017) by Jacob M — 03 May 2017
Gifted Review (2017).
Plot: Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) - in a coastal town in Florida. Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the 7-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.
The Good.
Mark Webb's amazing direction like what he did with 500 Days of Summer with characters walking around talking a lot which I love because this movie has a lot of great performances and great Character Development.
Chris Evans is really good in this film his character is really compelling dealing with his sister's wishes but also dealing with he has one of the Smartest Kid in the world living with him, and he's dealing with other people point of view of with her and also just wanting to make her smile everyday and let her be a kid and have fun on a beach and her one eyed cat.
Jenny Slate is also really good in the film her and Evans have great chemistry, I guess cause they previously dated during the making of the movie.
But the true star of the film is Mckenna Grace her performance was great and had a lot of Feels during the movie, I really cared for her character and Evans and their relationship was really good.
Octavia Spencer is really good as always.
The Feels at the end got to me I did tear up so that's extra points.
The Bad.
The Court Legal Action scenes which could bore people and sometimes they did even though there are really Powerful Scenes during them their just cheap ways to continue the story and basically just wanted to see more scene with the Little Girl and Evans and the Teacher.
Overall: I really love this movie its a return to form for Mark Webb after Sony screwed with both Amazing Spider-Man Films he did get to do what he does best and tell really good Character stories, but this movie is great and I can't wait to see what Mark Webb does next.
Overall Grade: B+.
