Review of Gifted (2017) by Mnomic — 25 May 2017
I've always liked Chris Evens, especially his role in Sunshine. Although he plays the uncle in this movie it really feels like a father-daughter movie at its heart; after all he's been the acting father to Mary more than anyone.
There was a sense of satisfaction to see a first grader kick ar*e with her mathmatical talent, showing professors what shes made of. Also as a female she was strong willed, not taking any crap from older bullies, exactly how I want my daughter to be.
Chris, on the other hand acts like he's strong but when he realises what he has and what he may lose then it hits home and his love for her finally spills out. As a dad, thats the tearjerking part that got me.
The movie may feel predictable at times but its ok, go with the ride, it's fun and it tugs at the heart strings, tissues at the ready and "...oh err ive just got an eyelash in my eye love...".
