Review of Giant (1956) by Steve C — 13 Dec 2007
A really good family drama. Although the film is a bit bloated and too long than what was really necessary, the film does have a great emotional impact upon completed viewing. It's a touching story about the perseverance of marriage, the relationship between father/son in terms of career expectations, and most importantly: a controversial exploration on the matter of racism and humanism.
The film is well directed, and boasts great performances from everyone involved. I recommend it if you are willing to sit through its 200 minute running time. Although not as perfect as THE GODFATHER or GONE WITH THE WIND, it's still one of the very best films about Texas life or the south in general.
