Review of Gia (1998) by Ryan R — 05 Sep 2008
A sad, sad, tragic true story. 'Gia' is touching, beautiful, and very emotional. Anglelina Jolie's breakthrough performance is truly magnificent, besting her Oscar-winning turn in 'Girl, Interrupted' and her most recent attempt at a leading actress Oscar with 'A Mighty Heart.
' Told party through 'documentary,' the film plays off the emotions of those around Gia. Taking on hard issues like substance abuse, AIDS, rape, and death, the movie never fails to connect.
While some will be turned off by the films sexuality, they should know that the sex scenes are not graphic, but artistic, beautifully shot, and sensual. Oh, while I don't like dumbing myself down very often, the sight of Jolie (in her early twenties) nude is something not to be missed.
Thoroughly entertaining, touching, and with a performance that set the bar very high for what's proved to be a long lasting and roller coaster ride of a career, 'Gia' is more than just a beautiful actress with beautifuly shot scenes.
