Review of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) by Alfredo P — 02 Mar 2013
Always wanted to watch it but wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was.
There's something here that was pretty consistent and that should be served as an example on how movies based on games/action figures should be like (I'm talking to you, Battlefield).
All the actors are well known, specially Lewitt, Quaid and Tatum which provided a solid acting overall.
FX were not as good as they could've been, provided that the picture obviously had a large budget and that it wasn't made 10 years ago.
The story was really well written, considering that the G.I Joe action figures don't have a main plot to be explored (not that I know of at least).
What really surprised me was the editing. Usually, those type of movies are either over-trimmed or under-trimmed, having either a tiring or a no-personality-characters feel to it. but The Rise of Cobra did enough drama for the public to relate to the characters at the same time that they didn't make the movie tiring at all, with at least 80% of the screen time being pure and beautifully coreographed and directed action.
