Review of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) by Connor F — 18 Jul 2013
G.I. Joe is based on a kids tv show, and unfortunately even though those audience members have grown up, the new movie seems to still cater to the same age group. All of the goofy dialogue and one liners are just too much, and most of the time not even funny.
For a film that is mostly based on special effects, some godawful cgi and good cgi seems to appear one after the other, almost as if made by two people with wildly different abilities. Top it off with goofball villains and lame back stories and this reboot almost seems like it should be an animated kids cartoon.
G.I. Joe is still fun for kids, but a nostalgia nightmare gone wrong for most older viewers.
