Review of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009) by Anthony C — 20 Sep 2010
Losely based on Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol where Matthew McConaughey is visited by two girlfriends from his sordid past but for some odd reason the future girlfriend isn't actually going to be 'a girlfriend' but then again it wouldn't make sense since he ends up with Jennifer Garner! Matthew McConaughey plays a guy who is a bit of a player with the ladies and quite frankly self involved! Jennifer Garner plays his childhood sweetheart and closest friend, who have known each other since childhood. She is also the reason why McConaughey went on his wayward ways with the ladies when she broke his heart and a school prom when he was too shy to ask for a dance and she went off with another guy. Michael Douglas plays his late Uncle who bought him up and was a bit of a player himself and teaches his newphew the tricks of the trade after his heart break with Garner. The ghost of Douglas pays him a visit, at McConaughey's brother's wedding, to warn him of his ways and he'll face dying a lonely, hated man unless he changes his ways and will be visited by three ghosts to show the error of his ways.
It's not the best film nor the funniest but its entertaining. McConaughey seems to be stereotyped in his acting roles so he got this kind of character down to a tee.
