Review of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009) by Jc E — 01 Feb 2011
Let's face it: most of Matthew McConaughey's (Failure to Launch) movies lately are romantic comedy fluffs. Still, he's quite amiable - probably because he's not one of those pretentious actors trying to be funny.
This twist on the Dickens classic is goofy and borderline bawdy, but there's still quite a few laughs to be had. Jennifer Garner (Valentine's Day) is gorgeous, as usual, and Emma Stone (Easy A) is funny, despite her small, unutilized role.
Michael Douglas (You Me and Dupree) plays the perverted old man a little too well, though. And when Breckin Mayer ("Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode II") and Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) can play the straight-faced characters, you know it's kind of humorous.
Formulaic, cheesy in parts, and utterly devoid of any real meaning, it's kind of what you expect from McConaughey, but still somehow enjoyable.
