Review of Ghosts of Cité Soleil (2006) by Nivin P — 27 Aug 2007
I have to say I was expecting a lot more from this film - I wanted this movie to be a documentary version of City of God. Instead I got a hard to follow narrative interspersed with random acts of violence.
Two brothers run separate gangs, fight on behalf of a corrupt government, woo some random missionary chick, then decide they might want to kill each other. Oh yeah, there's also some scenes of a guy rapping to Wyclef over the phone.
I dunno, I guess I expected "the most dangerous place on earth" to appear more...well...dangerous. This thing is all over the place and while it does have interesting moments, this doc is proof that some stories are better told as fiction.
