Review of Ghosts of Cité Soleil (2006) by Michelle E — 02 Dec 2007
This documentary was really engaging. I loved it. Great gritty cinematography and you really find yourself emotionally involved with the main chiefs.
When I was renting it, some guy said to me, "Did you see it yet? Those guys are one step above animals.".
After watching Cite Soleil...I have to say I couldn't disagree more. I actually believe that his comment was a little racist and judgmental.
I have lived with poverty and even though it was no where NEAR the horrible conditions the people endure in Haiti...I can say I understand what drives these people to commit crimes. Poverty is a dirty and ugly business. If your family is going to starve and you have no other options...you take what you need to survive.
A+++ movie. Highly recommended.
