Review of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) by Tvjerry — 23 Nov 2021
The producers of this new sequel seem to have taken their cue from the success of Stranger Things by pitting 4 young people against the ghosts. A mom and her 2 kids move to a remote dirt farm left by her estranged father. They soon discover remnants from the original Ghostbusters team, including the inevitable appearance of new phantoms. Director Jason Reitman (whose dad helmed the original) has cast an able young group and kept the pace moving, but the writing lacks much comic punch, the action scenes are flat and the EFX offer nothing new. Kids will probably enjoy this vanilla retelling, while dragging their parents, who will revel in the original.
NOTE: Stay thru the credits for one additional cameo, then a final moment that’s surprisingly long and rather cryptic.
