Review of Ghostbusters (2016) by Jedediah M — 16 Jul 2018
The new female-lead Ghostbusters gets off the a strong start with a great cast, tonnes of laughs and (mostly) good visual effects. However, it stumbles in its third-act, ultimately revealing that simply swapping the genders of the originals' main characters cannot inspire an entirely new film.
Ultimately, the positives outweigh its badly-written and rushed ending resulting in an enjoyable experience. As mentioned, the cast is brilliant and, armed with years of SNL experience, they easily pull-off the funnier scenes.
However, the script doesn't give them much to work with and many character-conflicts are hastily resolved in favour of a grand-finale that was done much better in the original with Mr. Stay Puft. Overall, there is plenty to enjoy for younger viewers and most of the film is likeable enough.
That said, this feminist revamp seems largely irrelevant and an unjustified cash-grab - you might-as-well just watch the original.
