Review of Ghostbusters (2016) by Ben T — 20 Jul 2017
I need to clarify I don't dislike this movie because I'm a sexist. Despite the marketing I was hoping this film would be good to prove the group of sexist and racist people who were hating on the film for those horrible reasons.
I didn't like this movie because it was boring, predictable, poorly written and most of all unfunny. I could have forgiven the poor character development, generic plot and the dreadful villain if this film was funny.
This film is one hour and fifty six minutes long and I did not laugh once. As an action movie it fails as the action is so boring and generic. As a horror movie it's completely tame. It just doesn't work.
The film is also really stupid. The comedy is purely childish slapstick and goofy one liners, the villains scheme doesn't make a lick of sense and the characters are so one note and unlikeable. The four Ghostbusters are awful, not because they are female but instead because of there awful characterisation, which is a shame as they are played by four talented actresses.
Kristen Wiig is incredibly awkward just like her character in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy relies on her falling over and being clumsy shtick, Kate McKinnon is just weird and wacky and it gets old so fast and Leslie Jones starts great but descends into a sassy black stereotype which is just awful.
Also the soup joke is probably the worst and most unfunny thing I've ever seen. At the end of the day Ghostbusters just angers me. This film caused so much controversy and the result is a boring, unfunny movie that wastes the talent involved and does nothing but fuel the hatred from sexist and racist bigots who lampooned this movie.
It's not an awful film but it is really bad.
