Review of Ghostbusters (1984) by Johnathon W — 28 Jun 2016
Brilliant horror/comedy that survives to test of time, thanks to a superb cast, hilarious script by Akyrod & Ramis (with, reportedly, a great deal of brilliant improvising by Murray) and Reitman's excellent direction, who keeps the balance between the scares & laughs perfect.
Even the visual effects have aged well (since they were so creatively done) and along with the music (that theme song never gets old). What makes the film works so well is that the ghosts are treated seriously (for the most part) and could have very easily been a serious action/thriller under different actors.
However, by casting comedic actors like Murray, Aykroyd & Ramis, the effect the whole tone is changed. A true classic that works on every viewing. So the question is, why would anyone remake it?
