Review of Ghost World (2001) by Frankie A — 04 Sep 2008
Inspired by a comic book, Ghost World is the work of director Terry Zwigoff. He has made offbeat classics such as the documentary Crumb, Art School Confidential and Bad Santa. He captures the changing lives of a couple of cynical hipster high school seniors as they leave the comfort of school, and start to think about living on their own and getting jobs. Steve Buscemi is outstanding in his portrayal of a geeky lover of all things old; music, art, furnishings, clothes.
The girls drift apart and Thora Birch's character softens up and shows her lonlieness and emotional needs.
Its a very good film with characters acting as people really are - focused on themselves, and somewhat clued out to the people around them.
(includes the funniest redneck moment ever captured on film).
