Review of Ghost World (2001) by Ryan P — 08 Apr 2013
''Napoleon Dynamite,'' take note. This is how you make a deadpan teenage comedy work without making your dialogues frustratingly dumb, and hence your characters totally obnoxious. On the contrary, the script here was a sheer delight; sarcastic, yes, but with a heart, and as a result the characters are completely endearing.
Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson & Steve Buscemi all do a fabulous job with their respective roles. And the soundtrack which ranges from a 1965 Bollywood song to late 20s/early 30s blues was absolutely wonderful.
A great ending, too, nothing cliched, which is so rare to find in movies these days. I daresay this is a fine film.
