Review of Ghost World (2001) by Stephen E — 24 Jun 2013
"Ghost World" was made for the kind of people that I have little interest in ever getting to know. While Thora Birch and Scarlet Johansson seem to be doing a good job with their performances, I couldn't stand their annoying, sardonic characters, even though I found most of their observations to be spot on.
What's even more aggravating is that it ends on a downbeat note that sees its most likable character (played by Steve Buscemi) with his life down the drain and its most unlikable character (played by Birch) with her life seemingly on the right track.
I don't mean to riff on "Ghost World" that much because it is funny and can be touching at times, but I just don't understand the message it's trying to convey.
