Review of Ghost World (2001) by Wes R — 24 Feb 2009
I never read the comic (I actually didn't know there was one) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The film isn't amazing or anything like that, but it's a fun dark comedy that provides a satisfying ending.
Thora Birch is a recently-graduated high school student who doesn't know what to do with her life. She befriends mega-loser Steve Buscemi (who gives a good performance) and we just kinda of follow her around while she discovers what she wants to do with her life.
Weirdly enough I think this film speaks more to me now than it would have 5 years ago when I graduated high school. I should also mention that the colors are very vivid in the film and it was a treat to watch many scenes.
