Review of Ghost World (2001) by Elaine M — 23 Feb 2009
Smart but crude and rebellious best friends Enid and Rebecca graduate high school and face the real world, but Enid's reluctance to get a job, and the friendship she forms with a nerdy middle-aged collector, puts her and Becky's friendship in jeopardy.
'Ghost World' is not really drowning in originality, but it's so well-made it really doesn't matter. Steve Buscemi, Thora Birch, and Scarlett Johansson are all perfect, the cuttingly sarcastic script is unforgettable, and the soundtrack is great.
Really enjoyable comedy drama from Terry Zwigoff, that doesn't lose its touch even after 10 or so viewings...
