Review of Ghost World (2001) by Vincent C — 02 Sep 2011
Ghost World is without a doubt my favorite film of all time. I have yet to see a movie where I enjoy it more and more as time goes on, but Ghost World does that for me. The story is fairly simple and relatable, which is perhaps why I love this movie so much. The story tells of a girl named Enid who is smart yet at the same time confused about the world around her.
Enid is a social outcast and has one best friend, Rebecca, who she does everything with. They make fun of other social outcasts and play pranks on others. During one of their pranks they meet Seymour a lonely depressed individual. Enid relates with him almost immediately and a strong bond is formed. The two share something in common. They both don't fit into the world around them.
The film is filled with great performances from everyone. Especially, Steve Buscemi. Scarlett Johansson is wonderful as Rebecca who wants to become a typical person in society and Thora Birch is breathtaking as Enid. The film has wonderful direction and there is really no part where in the film where the audience feels it is going to slow or too fast. The pacing.
Is flat out perfect.
