Review of Ghost Story (1981) by Bastet 0 — 18 Oct 2008
This film combines old school (50s) era story telling- (with the suspense and how the tale unfolds) and the cinematic costume effects that made the 80s horror genre the best. The story in itself is not too unique, it has been covered many times, most famously probably in "I know what you did last summer" (to the modern crowd) and the only flaw I can fault this for is the fact that the victim is entirely unrelatable. I do not know if it is the script or the actress' fault but she doesn't so much creep you out as make you think of the typical weird ex girlfriend. Major kudos need to be given to the SFX team for the corpse- the attention to detail is impressive, including the rotted wet skin sliding off the moldy, wet body- truly a piece of art.
To sum it up, if you ever enjoyed watching PBS' MYSTERY!, you would like this too.
