Review of Ghost Stories (2018) by Pablo A — 07 Sep 2018
This is an example of a horror film who's directors and producers etc. have tried to be intelligent in making a unique story, but in actual fact have succeeded in making a film that is just confusing. The film started off with some great potential and I actually enjoyed the story of 'case 1', but when the investigator moved onto 'case 2' the film started going drastically down hill, to the point where I didn't know if I was watching a comedy or a horror. The goat like monster in the second case file was just laughable and I hope that it wasn't designed to scare people because it was ridiculous.
I was more hopeful for 'case 3' as it featured Martin Freeman who is generally a very good actor, but it was actually when he appeared that things started to take an even stranger turn.
I was looking forward to the end because I was hoping for a well rounded and climatic ending that would rid me of my confusion. The ending did have a major twist and I understood most of it, but I found myself researching an explanation just to clarify. There are so many pieces or "hidden gems" throughout the film that would help you to understand the ending more, but to notice them all, would mean I would have to watch the movie again and I don't think I could bare it.
I gave this film a one star because the start had potential, but other than that the whole story was just too confusing to be even a tiny bit satisfying even after researching an explanation of the ending.
