Review of Ghost Ship (2002) by Joey T — 12 Jan 2011
WOW! This movie got SLAUGHTERED on here! That's surprising!
I actually admit that I liked this movie. I'm not saying this movie was perfect, but this movie was actually interesting for me. The plot has flaws, but who cares? I thought the setting of an abandoned ship was good for a change, rather than seeing the 90% of horror films that take place on dry land. You don't get a lot of horror films set on ships, which is a shame. The cinematography was great, the gore was wicked cool, and special effects which for once did not rely heavily on CGI (Thank god). Plus, a soundtrack with Mudvayne on it? This movie had a lot going for it! Leave it to ignorant people who have to have problems with the story to drag this whole movie to the bottom of the ocean, but hey, that's my opinion at least. Does it deliver jump out of your seat scares? No, and if you're expecting that, sorry to disappoint you. This movie is more like one of those films where it's not so much scary as it is "Oh sh*t, that's gotta suck for them!" The acting is not top-notch, and the writing isn't that great either.
All in all, I think this film serves as an example where you can cherry pick what's good and what's not so good. I mean, you have to give the film credit for what it TRIED to do. It didn't hit the nail on the head, but with a better plot and storyline, it could have been AWESOME! This is a film that I think you should at least give it a glimmer of a chance. Not a full recommendation, but I think people should treat this film just a little more fairly.
