Review of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) by Chet U — 25 Nov 2012
Bad acting, bad directing, a plot that neither matches with the previous installment nor the comic themes. Even respectable actors like Christopher Lambert and Idris Elba cannot save this movie from its massive, massive failings.
Once it starts to believe its own nonsense and absurd religious dogma, it plunges into depths that shouldn't exist. Ghost Rider rules are violated left and right, Mephisto and Roxanne are absent, and its ending is an abrupt cutoff, rather than some form of dramatic denoument that shows a story being told.
Nic Cage overacts even worse than the first one, which doesn't help matters, and clearly there was no true effort to really make this a Ghost Rider movie, as the flaming skull remains dormant for far too much time in order to really qualify as the movie it purports to be.
All in all, a poor effort all the way around.
