Review of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) by Walter M — 23 Oct 2013
In "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," Moreau(Idris Elba) offers to rid Johnny Blaze(Nicolas Cage) of the demon that has possessed him in exchange for protecting Nadya(Violante Placido) and her son Danny(Fergus Riordan) from Carrigan(Johnny Whitworth) and his goons. But you shouldn't be too harsh on Blaze for his hesitation, considering the last deal he made. Still, he tries his best, or rather the Ghost Rider does, only to end up in a Romanian hospital.
Admittedly, "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" is not very good cinema to say the least, what with its paying little attention to any form of logic. Still, it has two great advantages over its lumbering predecessor; namely, a much simpler storyline and never taking itself seriously. I mean you have to appreciate a movie as loopy as this that knows that it is loopy, is proud of its loopiness, even getting a tattoo that says 'loopy' on its right shoulder, with a patented Nicolas Cage performance to match. And as an added bonus, you get Idris Elba playing an alcoholic French ex-priest.
