Review of Ghost Rider (2007) by Philip S — 28 Sep 2012
A lesser entry in the Marvel superhero film adaptations, probably about on a par with Daredevil (not surprising, since they both share the same director). Nicolas Cage, Peter Fonda, Sam Elliot, and Eva Medes have loads of screen presence and nearly make some of their dialogue work.
The standard mythic structuring elements are in place, right down to a Sam Elliot-narrated framing device that speaks to the process of legend making. There are some effective action setpieces within the supernatural context, for what that's worth.
Who can argue that a flaming motorcycle and a flaming horse racing across the desert doesn't look good? On the other hand, CGI fire still looks like, well, CGI fire.
