Mark Steven Johnson's feature length adaption of the flame headed fictional character only gains its merits from some excellent CGI and cinematography - nothing more.

On a plot front, Ghost Rider is pretty weak and relies on numerous well crafted action scenes to keep us interested. I had little empathy for Nicholas Cage's Johnny Blaze/Rider and thus wasn't too bothered what happened to him; this decreased my opinion of the film as if you don't have interest in the main character that's not good!

Basically, Cage is Johnny Blaze, a man who has the unwanted curse of transforming into a flame headed Ghost Rider every night. As a younger man Johnny (played by Matt Long) develops the curse after being double crossed by Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) a supernatural being of evil. He (now Cage) is now looking to end the curse bestowed upon him and defeat the people who stand in his way.

The plot isn't very interesting at any point and the sub-plot which sees Johnny try and win the girl of his dreams Roxanne (Eva Mendes) is also dull; Mendes' performance as the reporter was bland and her character lacked personality.

Ghost Rider is worth a watch for the effects but on a superhero viewing scale, they don't come too much worse!
