Review of Ghost of Mae Nak (2005) by Merry C — 22 Nov 2011
This movie can't decide what it wants to be...campy or dramatic...and fails at both. The actors recite their lines like children in a school play and there is too much unneeded exposition. The inevitable deaths are pure camp to the extent one even reminded me of OJ getting damaged in Naked Gun. I'll admit, I laughed but I'm not sure I was supposed to.
The music felt like all music from 50s horror and alien invasion movies distilled into a score for this movie. Very campy but delightfully so. I wish it had been applied to a more deserving movie.
