Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Tom B — 03 May 2017
PG-13 doesn't do justice to an anime.
Fans of the acclaimed Japanese cartoon are likely to have a very rough time relishing in an American live action version of this. GHOST IN THE SHELL (2017) is handicapped to a great degree by its polished over environments and clean-cut wardrobe design.. In my opinion Scarlett Johansson in the role of "Major" was a mistake, because she's a shopworn sci-fi heroine; and I'm sure there's no doubt in any fans mind that Ron Perlman should have been casted for the role of Batou. If someone like Christopher Nolan were to remake this (dark and "R" rated) it could have been an ace reproduction; yet reiterating a well-known plotline with such average elements of production design, can only be beneficial to those unfamiliar to the story.
