Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Compi24 — 01 Apr 2017
Despite easily attaining the title of "greatest live-action adaptation of an anime that I've ever seen," director Rupert Sanders' "Ghost In The Shell" is still an overwhelmingly shallow and vapid experience, featuring hollow characters, muddied plot elements, and a molasses-paced first-half.
Boy, does this thing look and sound amazing, though. It's just a shame there's such a mixed bag of a screenplay at the center of this fantastically designed slog through transhumanism and other traditional cyberpunk thematics.
Fans of the original film, television series, and/or manga may have something to latch on to here, but for the uninitiated, this film may be a particular challenge to commit to.
