Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Ellen H — 21 Apr 2017
I really liked it. I don't know enough about the anime version to compare, so... I had no problems with this. But out of curiosity I watched the Anime on Hulu and I gotta say, I still like this movie.
It's not as egg-heady ethereal as the anime but that's okay. It is so cool to see a woman protagonist like this. Scarlett Johansson even walks like a dude a little bit. It doesn't feel like a girl pretending to be bad-ass.
She feels smart and confident and driven. And I just loved it. The story is drastically changed from the anime. And there's a lot going on, so I may just go see the movie again. I will say the Geisha robot scene is probably the best special effects out of the whole movie.
I really don't remember much else. The scene with her mother was very poignant. I felt.
