Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Jess K — 09 Jul 2010
Ghost in the Shell is a movie that everybody seems to love. Why? The only good thing about it is it's Akira-like atmosphere. But unlike Akira, too many things go against the excellent environment. The characters are dull and boring, most of the actors phone it in (especially the voice actress for the Major), and (if you'll forgive the metaphor) the plot has it's own philosophical head so far shoved up it's own butt, that it can't tell a decent story.
I'm serious, the film has pretty much drowned under it's own message. For me, the movie just isn't worth it.
