Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Andre K — 12 Nov 2010
Who the hell cares whether it's an ANIME and not a WESTERN ANIMTED MOVIE? Ghost in the Shell is amazing and it has the quality tantamount of a real life action Western movie. Yes, it is THAT good, unlike all the stereotypes that people always have on animes just because they're Asian and they're, basically, just cartoons.
Japan succeeded in creating a beautiful and complicated movie about cyborgs. I love the idea of "merging" which was totally unexpected. Japan's probably the only country in the world that can create really thought-provoking cartoons. In contrast, USA is better at adapting action comic books into real life movies. Well, they really complement each other.
I have a penchant for serious movies, but sometimes I myself get confused. I just know that this movie's worth watching and the animation's just beautiful. It's an age of cyborgs where a system rebels to its own creators. Great director, but I don't really like the soundtrack.
10/10.
