Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Zak S — 29 Apr 2012
A very intriguing sci-fi anime, that went on to have a huge influence on The Matrix. Looking at themes of robotics and its influence on human evolution and free will, the film does move very slowly (it is not in the same vein as other sci-fi anime, such as Akira) this is a cerebral film, that rewards patience.
More of an exploration of the future of humanity's relationship with technology, than having a driving narrative - if you've seen Blade Runner, it's that kind of a film. Though the story itself is very interesting, it has more going on in it than meets the eye, like Blade Runner.
