Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Ashish T — 03 Oct 2012
Hard to imagine this was sixteen years ago.
There are shades of both William Gibson's Neuromancer as well as Philip K Dick's Blade Runner in this - not just in the inspiration and idea, but - more subtly, more deeply - the spirit, the soul of what those stories were about has come through in this. Japan has always had a very unique relationship with technology... and they will be the forerunners of posthuman evolution. It shows in this movie, in how they approach it, handle it, deliver it, and in what they leave you thinking and feeling as you walk away from it.
Yes, it's brilliant. It's art, and it's also the finest scifi projectionism.
