Review of Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Aaron C — 30 Jan 2017
Anime's Concorde moment. There quite possibly will never be another story that captures the essence of anime and extends the genre as well as the Ghost in the Shell universe. The art and music are both beautiful.
The CG and traditional animation blend well over a creative soundtrack, no element being garish and distracting from the others. But more than that, GitS is as cerebral as it is artistic. The movie raises questions about epistemology, existentialism, machine sentience, immortality, the meaning of self, and what it means to be human.
