Review of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) by John B — 16 Nov 2009
Simply put, I love this movie. The small collection of cast is great and I could think of no one better than Forrest Whitaker to carry this story. He's great at playing a simple man with a complex character, in an age where displays of true respect are dying out, it's nice to see a character like Ghost Dog outside of a Japanese period piece.
As well Jarmusch's decision to pull in The RZA for the soundtrack was excellent, a true master of the martial arts hip-hop sound, the creator of the Wu-Tang Clan delivered nothing less than a top notch sound.
Slow, but steady, the movie let's you take in all you see and hear, and it's all the better for it.
