Review of Ghajini (2008) by Sahitya S — 06 Jan 2009
If memento was an intelligent thriller, ghajini is an emotional thriller. the romance aspect of the film is top notch, its cute, simple and how romance should be like, not like the stupid rab ne bana di jodi types.
This movie has surpassed my expectations. as I have seen memento I thought ghajini will not be able to match up with the genius of memento, however it does. it did what memento coudln't. in memento the protagonist is always aided with written material or pics to help in his memory loss condition, here in ghajini the director did the daring thing... he makes the villian of the film destroy all the written matter that helped aamirs character to remind him of things, so bringing him to zero memory of the villians existence. however, jias character helps him out eventually.
Coming to the direction of the film, its awesome... murgadoss reminded me of martin scorssese. its such a pacey film even after being for more than 3 hours.the cinematography is good, the editing specially is terrific. each cut in the film is with a purpose not just for the sake of it. the music is lovely.
Coming to the performances. aamir is outstanding. a true legend. asin is terrific, she is the next sridevi and is going to go a long long way, a wonderful female actor has come into existence after a long time. I hope she choses the right films.
A must watch guys... a great "hindi" (commercial) film after a long time.
