Review of Ghajini (2005) by Niraj V — 29 Dec 2008

An Aamir Khan movie, so very eagerly anticipated, with great expectations. Did it actually stack up in the end??

Well, the story premise is from Memento(2000) but it isn't anything like the original, which is disappointing!!!! The story isn't as skilfully told as it is in Memento, having kept it more or less in linear progression to not confuse the Indian audiences. What about the Tamil version from which this has been "remade"? No idea, but reports say that the Tamil version was better.

There are far too many logical inconsistencies in the movie,(for example, how come Mayapuri magazine never prints the photos of the millionaire industrialist who is supposed to be going out with a small time model?) gaping loopholes and pointless diversions in the form of "Item Songs", to keep the screenplay tight.

The ending is too tame and the final climax a bit too "filmy" to accept. Its also quite a long movie, why they need it to be close to 3 hours, I'll never know.

Aamir Khan excels as usual, and his physique is quite something else, and should serve as an inspiration for all 40 somethings who have lost hope of getting rid of any excess flab they may have.

Asin is excellent. So comfortable and natural in front of the camera. An absolute pleasure to watch and she definitely has a long career ahead.

The less said about Jiah Khan, the better.

I'm sure you're wondering why I've given it 4 stars despite having roundly slated the movie in the beginning!!!

Well, its actually a good time pass movie, it holds your attention (as long as you don't look for the loopholes) and its slickly made with some really gory action scenes.

Watch it!! I'm sure you will, regardless of what I say, you'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
