Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Josh K — 26 Jan 2010
The Civil War is a memorable war and with that said, this film is also a memorable film. It is not only a film, but a historical experience. Ronald F. Maxwell, the film's director, makes a historical experience.
While appears like a live action text book, the film's greatest part is the battles and acting, most notably Jeff Daniels, Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen and Stephen Lang. Maxwell sets this film together kind of like a history book, but that does not bring the film down.
The film's has good dialogue and carefully follows what happened during the American Civil War. The film's cinematography also lends itself effectively to the battle scenes, with each battle being carefully brought out and the tensions rise.
Maxwell is a master at this film and makes a film that any history buff will enjoy.
