Review of Getaway (2013) by Ricky L — 27 Aug 2013
Its obvious that the filmmakers were working to create an intense experience for the audience. I've never seen such a work of technical mastery in a film which isn't filled with digital effects.
Completely effective. The story is basic. Ethan Hawke's character, an ex professional driver, comes home to find his wife has been taken and is told that if he does not do exactly as he's told then his wife will die.
From there it takes off and becomes probably the most intense thriller I've seen. It dispenses with the traditional film setups and obligatory scenes and instead just brings you into the situation and keeps you there until its over.
I can see how many conventional reviewers will likely trash the film for lack of story, but I think that they will be missing the point entirely. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Fresh.
