Review of Getaway (2013) by Laura K — 29 Aug 2013
Between the brusk and unpleasant yelling fights with Selena, and pulling such classic driving maneuvers as "going in reverse," "going down an alleyway," and "bumping into your pursuer," Ethan Hawke manages to barely leave his car and barely interest the audience.
The only thing more difficult to bear than the insignificance of the bond between Selena and Ethan, even more off-putting than the undeveloped and terribly trite "I have to get my wife back, no matter what it takes" theme, is the lack of satisfying resolution.
The big reveal at the end has little more interest to the audience than the many close-ups of Jon Voigt's teeth and whiskers. To anyone who hopes "The Getaway" is a combination of "Taken" and "Drive," you would be much better off just watching "Taken" and "Drive" again.
