Review of Getaway (2013) by Kevin R — 06 Jun 2014
You will have to conquer your fear if you want to save her.
A former NASCAR driver turner criminal has his wife kidnapped. The person responsible gives him a list of instructions to follow and a mission to execute if he ever wants to see his wife again; unfortunately, a young girl tried to steal the car he is using to execute the missions. She joins him on his travels and he may find her more useful than he anticipates.
"You can keep the car. Can I get out now?".
Courtney Solomon, director of Dungeons & Dragons and An American Haunting, delivers The Getaway. The storyline for this picture is a bit bland, predictable, and too conveniently executed (a bit too unrealistic). The action scenes were first rate with some great camera angles, action scenes, and unique car chase sequences. The acting was just okay and the case includes Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, Paul Freeman, Bruce Payne, and Rebecca Budig.
"I'm going to go for it!".
'No! Don't go for it!".
I love car movies (new and old) and thought the previews for this picture looked interesting. Unfortunately, this film was kind of blah. I did score this slightly above average because the action and car scenes were very well done. This is not a complete waste of time, but this definitely could have been better.
"You're the shittiest driver I've ever seen.".
Grade: C+.
