Review of Getaway (2013) by Rosa F — 30 Aug 2013

I have very mixed feelings on this movie. First of all, Ethan Hawke is a great actor and he has recently been trying projects he typically doesn't do. His venture into the realm of horror was great but this off-the-walls action flick just didn't work. Before you start questioning if my opinion of Ethan Hawke has changed, the answer is no. Ethan Hawke is still a great actor it was the directing and the script that was so pathetic that it made this decent idea into a totally incoherent, instantly forgettable, total crap fest. I will admit, a lot of the blending of certain scenes was nicely done and the last chase scene was beautiful but everything in between was terrible. Some of the action bits were cool but the movie needed a lot more help that better action.

As for the acting, it was pretty good. Selena Gomez has proved to me that she doesn't deserve to play characters who do nothing but yell 3 and 4 letter curse words. She is much better than that. Some of the best scenes were with Rebecca Budig, a soap star who is most famous for her role on All My Children. She proved that she could act but since this movie wasn't a drama, her acting ability was unfairly overlooked. Ethan Hawke was very good, for what he had to work with. In the simplest scene when any typical action star wouldn't show emotion, Ethan Hawke showed a good amount of emotion. He tried to pick up the pieces of this terrible movie but unfortunately everything about this movie is a waste of time. Definitely not worth to see it in theaters.
